A man in his 60s has been taken to hospital with a broken leg after an accident at a Wiltshire karting track.

The man was riding a Minimoto, an Italian indoor racing bike, at M4 Karting, located in a hangar at Hullavington Airfield between Chippenham and Malmesbury, when he fell and broke his leg.

The incident occurred at around 12.30pm on Saturday, February 11.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance were the first responders at the scene, arriving shortly before 1pm, but because the incident was non-life threatening paramedics were able to wait for a regular ambulance, which then transported the man to hospital shortly before 2pm.

Track owner Julian Haywood was keen to emphasise that, while accidents like this can happen at karting tracks, M4 Karting do everything possible to minimise that risk.

He said: “This occurred on one of our Minimotos, which are very small motorcycles, to a gentleman in his 60s.

“It was an unfortunate incident because we do our upmost to make sure everybody has a safe experience and goes out the door with a smile on their face rather than a cast on their leg.

“We do have accidents, it goes with the territory, but hopefully he is going to make a full recovery.”
