Two Devizes teenagers have been arrested after one person was hospitalised by armed youths.

Wiltshire Police attended a report of disorder at around 5pm on Sunday, February 5.

Youths were seen carrying weapons on Naughton Avenue, on the northeast side of town, and at the Esso garage on London Road.

One person suffered an injury which required hospital treatment and has since been released.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and affray. Another boy, also 15, was arrested on suspicion of affray.

The Insp for Devizes, Ben Huggins, said: “We understand the impact of these incidents on the community and are working hard to ensure it’s considered unacceptable for youths to carry weapons.

“While yesterday’s incident was concerning for the public, it is believed to have occurred in isolation and there was no wider threat to the public.

“Whilst we continue to engage with key partner agencies this is not a problem that can be solved by the police alone.

“I’d like to appeal to parents to educate children on the potential impact of carrying weapons. It can destroy lives, including your own and your family’s. Please be observant of where they are and what they are doing.”

Police are now appealing for witnesses. Those with information should call them on 101 quoting reference number 54230012997.
