A Malmesbury teenager has pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking after three mobility scooters were stolen in September 2022.

The 13-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court charged with three counts of aggravated vehicle taking.

He had previously appeared in court on December 20 in relation to offences including theft, public order and taking a motor vehicle without consent, when a mandatory Referral Order to the Wiltshire Youth Offending Team was made.

The boy pleaded guilty to the three offences on Tuesday, January 17 and the Referral Order was extended, by three months, while a six-month Parenting Order was imposed on his mother. This may impose requirements, such as counselling sessions, on a parent after their child has offended.

Sgt Jamie Ball said: “We have taken this anti-social behaviour incredibly seriously as we know the impact it is having on local residents.

“We secured several charges against this teenager and another youth, aged 15, and will be seeking criminal behaviour orders in relation to these individuals.

“I am pleased that the courts have imposed Youth Referral Orders and now a Parenting Order, which if not adhered to, could have serious consequences.

“We will continue to take a robust approach when dealing with any ongoing anti-social behaviour within our local towns”.
