A Devizes chef is set to shoot to stardom abroad after appearing on a Masterchef-esque Romanian cooking show.

Dumitru Paul Tudosescu, known as Pablo, runs a food truck in Devizes with his cousin Teo and will star in the new season of ‘Chefi la Cutite’, or ‘Chefs on Knives’, in February.

Mr Tudosescu, who was born in Romania but has lived in the UK since 2004, was contacted to appear on Romanian TV after working in the country as a head chef seven years ago. He initially turned down the offer because he was busy running his business in the UK.

But when his father, who had been excited about the opportunity, died last year he decided to take the plunge.

“After we had said goodbye to him I thought ‘let’s do it’”, said Mr Tudosescu. “I called them with a week left before they closed applications then took a flight.

“It was amazing to be honest with you, it was absolutely fantastic.

“Don’t get me wrong, it was stressful and quite intense because of the long filming hours but it gave me back the passion for cooking that I had lost."

Mr Tudosescu has not been able to reveal where he finished on the show because it has not yet aired but said that his experience has inspired him to take his cooking to the next level.

He has since returned to Devizes where he has used the momentum from his TV appearance to revamp the menu at Pablo and Teo’s The Good Food Van.

The pair have been selling a variety of homemade takeaway food out of the van for a year now and have set themselves up in the B&Q car park on Hambleton Avenue.

Mr Tudosescu says they have enjoyed success over the past 12 months but that being part of a family run business is one of the things he enjoys most about his work.

He added: “We’ve done it together and it’s amazing. I’d rather work with him that anyone else. We have had fantastic reviews.”

They have enjoyed a large following on Facebook, racking up over 1000 followers, with their completely homemade menu proving a hit with customers. They even sell fish and chips in nearby villages, like Pewsey.

Going forwards, Mr Tudosescu hopes to make it onto screens in the UK as well as Romania. He plans to apply for Masterchef UK to display his culinary talents domestically after starring abroad.
