Police are investigating the death of a dog in Devizes after a driver mounted the pavement and hit it.

The dog was being walked along Bath Road, near Prison Bridge, on a lead at around 10.20am on Sunday, November 6 when a 4x4 with a trailer attached left the road and knocked it down.

The driver stopped but then left without giving any identification details to the owner of the dog.

The dog was then taken to a vet but died shortly after.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident, or anybody with information which may be relevant, to come forward. In particular, they are hoping to locate a motorcyclist who stopped to help the dog’s owner.

A police statement said: “We are appealing for witnesses after a vehicle mounted the pavement and fatally injured a dog in Devizes.

“We respect that some time has passed, during which we have been investigating the incident.

“We believe a motorcyclist stopped to help the dog’s owner, and we would particularly like to speak to them.
