CELEBRITY chef Gordon Ramsay swapped the heat of the kitchen for a visit to the glorious Wiltshire countryside to make a new cookery programme.

Mr Ramsay visited Fosse Farmhouse B&B in Nettleton, near Castle Combe as part of filming for his new TV series Uncharted Showdown.

The show follows Gordon, 56, as he faces off against UK star chefs Paul Ainsworth and Matt Waldron.

Fosse Farmhouse B&B is the only location in Wiltshire that Mr Ramsay visited in this series during a tour of the country during lockdown last year.

Viewers tuned into the first episode on Wednesday (November 9) to find out more about his visit to Fosse Farmhouse B&B.

Fosse Farmhouse owner Caron Cooper was filmed teaching Gordon how to bake her delicious traditional Wiltshire Lardy Cake recipe in her kitchen.

Despite his fearsome reputation for being foul-mouthed, Caron said Mr Ramsay was well behaved, if rather boisterous, but did as he was told.

Before starting to bake, 5ft 2 inches Caron made 6ft 4 inch Gordon wash his hands and put on one of her aprons as he didn’t bring one of his own.

“I told the production crew that it’s my kitchen and that Gordon must abide by my rules,” said Caron. “It was a bit of struggle to get the apron on, but they kept it in the programme.”

She added: “He was happy to try the Lardy Cake and I think he was quite surprised at how good it really is.”

Episode 1 The Jurassic Coast was filmed in April last year during one of the Covid pandemic lockdowns, as Mr Ramsay was unable to travel abroad.

As a spin-off of his popular series Uncharted, in this new show Ramsay explores areas in the UK that he's never fully explored previously.

Located within walking distance of Castle Combe, which is generally recognised as one of the UK’s prettiest villages, Fosse Farmhouse B&B is a hidden gem surrounded by glorious countryside yet less than two hours’ drive from central London.

Lardy Cake has been popular in Wiltshire and the West Country for decades. Also known locally as 'Shaley Cake' or 'Lardy Johns', it was traditionally served hot with afternoon tea on Saturdays and Sundays.

The main ingredients are lard, white dough and sugar, although there are many variations of the recipe. Several West Country bakers still bake it today using their own particular ingredients.

Ms Cooper, the owner of Fosse Farmhouse B&B, makes Traditional Wiltshire Lardy Cake for her B&B guests and local outlets.

She has been a huge lover of antiques and from the age of 16, she has been dealing in vintage kitchen decorative items and French Brocante.

When she purchased Fosse Farmhouse, built in the 1700s, it was old, rundown and rather beat up. Caron was determined to fix up the house and 28 years later, Fosse Farmhouse is now a well-established Bed and Breakfast.
