CHIPPENHAM Town Council will continue to fly the Purple Flag over the town hall after retaining its night-life status.

The council has managed to retain its prestigious Purple Flag accreditation for another year for its evening and night-time economy.

Cllr Desna Allen, Chippenham Town Council leader, said: “This is brilliant news for Chippenham and we are delighted to retain our Purple Flag status.

“It is important to support the night-time economy in the town while reassuring people we have an effective infrastructure to maintain a safe and clean night-time destination.”

Mark Smith, chief executive of Chippenham Town Council, said: “This result is evidence of our effective partnership working in Chippenham. Our thanks go to everyone involved who has given their time and energy in supporting this worthwhile project for the town.”

The Purple Flag award aims to raise the standard and broaden the appeal of town and city centres between 5pm and 5am.

Areas awarded the Purple Flag are recognised for providing a vibrant and diverse mix of dining, entertainment and culture, while promoting the safety and wellbeing of visitors and local residents.

The council was first accredited with Purple Flag status in 2016 and has successfully been re-accredited on five occasions since then, including this latest re-accreditation.
