When filmmakers working with Longleat Safari Park needed to demonstrate how snakes view the world in infrared, they turned to local firefighters for help.
Junior Rangers, a new series of animal programmes aimed at children, is currently being shown on the Longleat website, covering various educational topics such as camouflage, creepy crawlies and dangerous animals. Animal senses, the snake and its eyesight is where the fire service came in.
Jo Sparrow, Marketing Manager at Longleat, explained: "We contacted Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service to see if we could use one of their thermal imaging cameras to show how things look when seen through infrared, and they were delighted to help."
Gus Cuthbert, Director for Communities at Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, said: "This was certainly an unusual request, but luckily we were able to help out. I'm hoping that the young people who watch this film will be interested in what we do, which in turn will make them more aware of the importance of fire safety."
