THE historic village of Castle Combe was given a 19th century makeover this week as filming of the classic horror tale The Wolf Man got underway.

There were no sightings of Hollywood legend Anthony Hopkins but Oscar winning actor Benicio Del Toro playing Welshman Laurence Talbot was enough to set female hearts aflutter.

Also on set was Emily Blunt, best known for her role in The Devil Wears Prada and Hugo Weaving of Matrix fame.

Caroline McGinn, 61, of Charter Road, Chippenham, said: "Hugo looked good. My daughter spoke to him and he was really nice to her. I have been coming here every day since Monday. I have also been to Corsham Court to see Tess of the d'Urbervilles.

She is researching a book on North Wiltshire film locations.

A Wolf Man publicist said: "It is all going really well. We are very pleased with the set and all the people in Castle Combe have been very co-operative."

She expects the film to be out out in first half of 2009. They are now in their sixth week of filming and expect to be finished in June.

Today all eyes will turn to Lacock when fans may well have the chance to glimpse Hopkins.

Production crews from Universal Studios have been in the village for a few days preparing the Tithe Barn and High Street .

Hopkins super fan Jeffrey Cryer, 41, a steel worker from Penarth in Wales, has driven to Lacock for a second time in a month to catch a glimpse of Mr Hopkins.

He made the 140-mile round trip with wife Lesley, 45, last month before learning that the filming had been delayed because of the rain.
