A restaurant in Chippenham has been doing its bit to get people to check their blood pressure.

The Chippenham Pit stop is inviting villagers from Kington Langley, Sutton Benger and Stanton St Quintin, as well as people in Christian Malford, Kingston St Michael and Hullavington, to pop in to the restaurant and Nisa Community Stores to check their blood pressures.

The health charity "Know Your Numbers UK’s" awareness campaign ran from September 5 to 11 but the Pit Stop people are promoting theirs for the whole month.

Pit Stop Health Campaigns Co-ordinator, Lisa Hatherell, said high blood pressure, often symptomless, was a hidden danger effecting millions of people and could lead to the start of serious illnesses.

She said: “So, anyone calling in at our shop is most welcome to borrow our machine to check if their numbers comply with the NHS guide numbers of 120 over 80.

“The risk of a stroke approximately doubles for each decade of life from aged 55.

"While we provide our customers with excellent facilities, including nourishing meals and hot showers in a homely environment, our policy has always been to adopt a more wholistic approach to the wellbeing of our many trucker and community customers.”
