FILMING for the second series of the Sunday night smash hit series Lark Rise to Candleford will begin later this year near Corsham.

The BBC has resubmitted their planning applications to return to Neston Park and Hatt Farm in Box.

The application is to renew permission for the use of land at the estate as a film set until January 2010 and will now be considered by Corsham Town Council on March 26.

A spokesman for the BBC said: "We have been delighted with the audience's positive and warm reaction to Lark Rise and have subsequently commissioned a second series of 12 episodes for transmission in 2009.

"All of the actors had a brilliant time filming in Wiltshire last time, despite the horrendous weather.

"We have to finalise a schedule of filming but anticipate at being in the area for a number of days at very least."

The series has been one of the highest rated shows in the Sunday night schedule - pulling in 7.1million viewers.

The BBC is, however, remaining tight-lipped about rumours that they will film a second series of Cranford.

Some of the scenes from the period drama starring Dame Judi Dench were shot in Lacock last year.

Annie Frederick from the BBC publicity team said: "There has been no confirmation of a second series of Cranford at this time.

"The first series was a huge success so it would not be ruled out, but a decision has yet to be reached."

Filming is also due to start this Thursday on the Anthony Hopkins horror movie Wolfman in Lacock.

The award-winning actor will film scenes in the Tithe Barn and around Church Street during the one-day shoot.

Production staff were in Lacock last week to finalise the filming schedule and to check out the locations.

Vera Woods, 58, who lives just outside the village, said: " We are all really excited about this - although we have a lot of filming in the area, I am a big fan of Anthony Hopkins so this tops the bill for me.

"I have spoken to a few of my friends in the village and it seems that the National Trust haven't sent out the usual letters to let us know this time.

"This is all just adding to the suspension of seeing Anthony to be honest.

"I don't know how much we will be able to see because I think they are filming inside the barn - but I will definitely pop along and see what's going on."

The village is currently being shown on the silver screen in the Scarlett Johansson movie The Other Boleyn Girl at cinemas now.
