A care home in Chippenham has been rated 'Good' by inspectors - but improvements are still needed in some areas. 

HC-One’s Avon Court care home in Rowden Hill was inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) last month. 

Before the inspection, inspectors had received information of “concern about staff interaction with people” particularly at night.

The report stated: “We visited in the evening and spent time observing staff interactions. We did not find evidence to substantiate any concerns.

“People told us staff were caring and kind and they felt comfortable with staff.

“People and relatives told us people were safe at the service and staff had been given training on safeguarding 3 Avon Court Care Home Inspection report 26 August 2022 and understood their responsibilities.

The care home was told improvements were needed in management plans, as inspectors did see two that needed more details.

Action had been taken to involve healthcare professionals, but the guidance shared had not been added to people's plans according to the CQC.

But the team at the 56-bed residential, nursing and nursing dementia care home were "thrilled" to have received the report that rated the home as ‘Good’ in all areas.

The inspectors were full of praise for staffat Avon Court, highlighting the ways in which they provide care for residents at the home, including how the home promotes a positive culture.

Inspectors said: “People told us the staff were caring and kind and worked hard to provide person-centred care...Staff go above and beyond, and nothing is too much trouble."

The leadership at Avon Court was also highlighted as an asset to the home.

Inspectors added: “Staff told us the manager was visible, approachable and managed the service effectively. Comments about the manager included, “The Manager will jump on to what she needs to do, always has her office door open, you can always pop in and see her." 

HC-One Avon Court Care Home Interim Manager, Mela James said: “We are delighted with this report which is a testament to the hard work and kind care that each and every member of the team puts in, day in day out.” 

HC-One Area Director, Sara MacCormack also added: “This rating is great news. I would like to thank the whole team for their commitment and hard work and congratulate them on such an impressive report."
