Two previously "unheard and unreleased" recordings which were dropped from David Bowie’s record label in 1968 are set to be auctioned off in Chippenham - along with other rarities.

Wiltshire Auctioneers Wessex Auction Rooms is selling the recordings along with another acetate that features a different vocalist singing the same song.

The song was dropped just after the commercial failure of his first album on the Deram label, and it was at this time Bowie was doing session work recording other people’s tracks.

Auctioneer & Music Specialist Martin Hughes said: “David Bowie was always a chameleon when it came to song style and vocal delivery, but he was always in control of that vision.

“What is amazing here is that you hear him performing tracks which he was simply employed to sing for someone else in order to demo songs that were owned by the publishing company – and that is something truly unique.”

“The person who purchases this lot gets the bragging rights of being one of the only people to have heard these songs in full and that has to be the dream for any serious David Bowie fan.”

The auctioneers have also got a sealed and numbered copy of the Beatles White Album up for grabs, with the album being one of the most collectable albums for Beatles fans.

It is thought that nothing like this copy has been seen in auctions in the world before, as due to the fact it is sealed- it is presumed to be in mint condition.

Martin said: “In terms of value the sky’s the limit.

“I am expecting a major bidding war with an estimate of £1000 - £1500 but to be honest with items as rare and collectable as this I wouldn’t be surprised to see it make something crazy like £10,000.”

A test pressing vinyl ‘Cry For A Shadow’ which was recorded when The Beatles were a backing band for Tony Sheridan in the early years of their career is also up for auction for the first time anywhere in the world.

Martin noted said: “This is an opportunity for any Beatles fan to own a piece of history.

“Coming directly from the family of Winifred Atwell makes this all the more special and I think it will sell for up to £1000 at the auction.”

The auction will take place on August 25/26 at Wessex Auction Rooms.
