More employers in Wiltshire are paying their workers a “real” living wage according to new figures.

Data shows that there were four accredited real living wage employers in Devizes, meaning they pay their workers a realistic living wage rather than the bare minimum.

These included the Oxfam shop on Maryport street, Nationwide Building Society also on Maryport street, Wansbroughs Solicitors on Northgate Street and ISS Facility services on London Road.

There’s been a jump in companies signing up to the voluntary living wage scheme over the past year, which monitors the realistic living wage- and is higher than the minimum wage as it is pegged to living costs.

The rate is calculated by a group of economists and applies to employees aged 18 and over, currently stands at £9.90 per hour across the UK and £11.05 in London, to reflect higher prices in the capital.

The Government's living wage stands at £9.50 per hour for people aged 23 and over, and £9.18 for over 21s.

Figures also show there were 54 accredited “real” living wage employers in the whole of Wiltshire, which is up from 33 at the same point last year and 15 five years ago.

It comes amid rocketing fuel prices, as well as food and energy bills which have put wages under the spotlight.
