A business in Marlborough has just been given a share of a £37 million funding pot to expand their work.

New Energy Farms, which is based on The Parade, was one of 11 companies awarded with the money which was put together to ‘develop biomass feedstocks for the UK expansion of renewables towards net zero.’

This is under the Biomass Feedstocks Innovation Programme from BEIS and means they will be able to employ a further eight people.

The business has already taken on three new people for their Marlborough office according to their CEO, Paul Carver.

Paul said: “We are developing new varieites of Miscanthus and cold tolerant sugarcane crops, we have worked on Miscanthus for the last 25 years, and we also work in Brazil on sugarcane.

“We have developed a patented system to make artificial seeds for crops that do not produce seeds, called CEEDS.”

It is all funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio. Energy Minister, Greg Hands, said: “Accelerating home-grown renewables like biomass is a key part of ending our dependency on expensive and volatile fossil fuels.

“This £37 million of government investment will support innovation across the UK.”
