We’ve been given a glimpse of a paw-some hotel in Marlborough, where business has been booming recently.

A pet hotel, which was set up by a teenager in the town just over a year ago, was all because of her love for her own pets - inspiring her to turn her passion into a successful business.

Tamzin Shipway, 14, has been in huge demand this summer by people jetting off and going on holiday for the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19.

She runs her pet hotel from the family home, with the help of her mother Lisa.

They take in all kinds of pets, from rabbits to birds, rodents and reptiles.

The animals keep the pet-loving teen occupied most of the time, as Tamzin enjoys spending her hours giving them plenty of cuddles when she is not doing her school work.

However, she also makes sure to carry out the other important tasks like cleaning the hutches, making sure all the pets are fed and ensuring they all get lots of sunshine.

Rabbits and guinea pigs are housed in one of the hutches in their own garden, and they get to spend time in a run on the grass in the day, weather permitting.

For smaller animals like hamsters and gerbils, they spend their holiday in one of the family’s cages which they keep in the upstairs area of the house.

The same goes for ferrets and birds, says the teen.

As for the reptilian holiday-makers, one vivarium is available at the house, as she has a few reptiles herself- but people can also bring their own according to Tamzin.

Tortoises get to have quite the variety in their stay- said the animal keeper.

She said: “Tortoises are housed in one of my tortoise tables I have with UVB/UVB light and heat lamp. They will be transferred outside into a special Tortoise run during the day and come back inside at night and given some green to eat.”

Her mum Lisa said: “She’s great at waking up early to get them all sorted.

“It takes about half an hour to an hour in the mornings to get them all ready for the day.”

Tamzin said: “I got the idea after having my own pets, and really enjoyed spending time with them so thought I could look after other people’s.

“It’s been so busy recently, and lots of people have been booking them in.”
