Police say the conviction of a man for assaulting a neighbour is linked to antisocial behaviour issues at a housing estate.

Phillip Antony Andrew, 58, from Chapel House, Avon Square, Upavon, pleaded guilty to assault by beating at Salisbury Magistrates' Court on June 24. He also faced a charge of possessing an offensive weapon - a baseball bat - in a public place on January 26.

Andrew's case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Wiltshire Police confirmed a number of reports have been made as a result of 'ongoing issues involving neighbours' at the address.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “Earlier this month a 58-year-old man appeared in court and was convicted of assault by beating and possession of a weapon in a public place.

“Our investigation has also led to a Community Protection Warning, and then subsequently a Community Protection Notice, being issued against a 53-year-old man.

“We appreciate the impact that anti-social behaviour has on people, and we will continue to liaise with all those involved to provide support and assistance to get the matter resolved.”

A spokesperson for Aster Group, which manages the accommodation, said: “Our teams work hard to ensure that our neighbourhoods are places people are proud to call home. Our dedicated anti-social behaviour teams work closely with customers and partnership agencies, and are working with Wiltshire Police to resolve any issues of concern at Chapel House.

"We always seek to take appropriate action against anti-social behaviour to ensure our communities remain safe."

The spokesperson added: “Last week we supported the national ASB awareness week campaign and took the opportunity to share advice and guidance with our customers, from our team of Anti-social behaviour officers.

“If customers are concerned about an issue, we would encourage them to report it to the police in the first instance and then to us by calling our contact centre on 0333 400 8222.

"We take Anti-social behaviour extremely seriously and will follow up on every single report we receive.”
