Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan has helped launch a search for the NFU’s local Community Farming Hero.

The scheme has been launched by the National Farmer’s Union to celebrate the importance of farming and rural community, and each MP can nominate one farmer in their constituency as their Farming Hero for 2022.

This could be a farmer with longstanding service to the industry or the community, or a farm locally that always goes the extra mile.

The MP said: “Our local farmers and agricultural workers do an incredibly important job, and the Community Farming Hero Award is all about celebrating the achievements and importance of the whole industry, whose efforts do not always get enough attention.

“The industry is an incredibly tough one to work in, and we know that a large increase in costs is really hitting farmers and food producers at the moment, who are doing everything they can to get our food on the table and keep our supply chains resilient.

“I’d love to see as many local farmers and rural workers as possible to be nominated so we can celebrate all of their hard work.”

To nominate someone email your submission to: michelle.donelan.mp@parliament.uk, with a maximum of 250 words explaining your nomination. Deadline is Friday, August 26.
