THE first foundations are now being laid for the fifth and final phase of the Barratt Homes development at Birds Marsh View in Chippenham.

Phase 5 will see a further 37 new two, three and four-bedroom homes, adding to the 271 homes built to date.

Once complete, this new community will provide some 750 new homes in total.

Andrea Pilgrim, Sales Director at Barratt Bristol said: “We are pleased to be getting the diggers in the ground at this final phase and pressing ahead with more much-needed new homes for north Chippenham.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

“It is fantastic to see a range of homebuyers from first time buyers, families and young professionals already getting settled in and we can’t wait to welcome our final residents.”

The plans for the Birds Marsh View development were first approved in February 2016.

The new homes are being built on green field land off Hill Corner Road which local campaigners fought to protect when the scheme was first announced.

A new link road to the A350 Malmesbury Road from the B4069 Maud’s Heath Causeway is being built as part of the scheme.

The link road is expected to open in mid-August after snagging work is completed by the developers.

Locals will be pleased when it does, as traffic volumes on Hill Corner Road have increased as each phase of the new homes have been completed.

The Birds Marsh View site is being shared between Barratt/David Wilson Homes and Persimmon Homes which are developing the residential elements of the scheme.

Barratt/David Wilson are building up to 355 of the new homes. The remaining 395 homes are being built by Persimmon Wessex.

Set within 11 acres of open space, Barratt/David Wilson Homes are building one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom homes.

The new homes will be close to local play areas, parks, allotments, and a proposed school and a local centre.

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

Residents began moving into their new homes in September 2018 with more than 200 people now living in this new community.

Located just two miles from Chippenham town centre, Birds Marsh View is close to key commuter links such as the M4 and Chippenham railway station, providing easy access to London, Bath, Bristol and Swindon.

The development will also include four miles of cycleways and footpaths, with Birds Marsh Wood on its doorstep. Sales of the Phase 5 new homes will launch in the autumn.
