A STOLEN car was driven the wrong way down Great Western Way as a frightening police chase came to an end in Swindon this afternoon.

The two men found inside were arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and dangerous driving.

Avon and Somerset Police had been chasing the car along the eastbound carriageway of the M4 and were later joined by their Wiltshire counterparts.

The car was later confirmed stolen and on false plates.

The pair were taken into custody at Gablecross and police confirmed there were no injuries.

Wiltshire's Specialist Ops tweeted: "RPU have 2 in custody for theft of motor vehicle and dangerous driving to add to the list of offences after a confirmed stolen car on false plates made off from police and drove the wrong way down Great Western Way Swindon, no injures and 2 in the cells."
