Sheldon School took more than 25 of its pupils to compete in the county athletics championships in Swindon.

To qualify for this, pupils had to have won the area trials in their event against ten local schools.

In a statement the school said: "It was a fantastic achievement to even qualify. There were some phenomenal Sheldon performances."

The athletes who won their respective events were: Joe (100m and 200m), Jemima (Javelin), Harry (3000m), Owen (Hammer), James (Hammer), Adam (Hammer), Peter (High Jump) and Poppy (high jump) Poppy jumped the same height as the winner but missed out on going to South West Championships due the count back on her jumps.

Pupils in Year 7 who also performed well were Layla (long jump and 800m) and Kieran (Javelin).

Head of PE Holly Wainright said: "The achievements of these students are absolutely remarkable, and they are without doubt some of the strongest athletes in the county."
