Two iconic planes used by British forces during World War II will be flying over Swindon in the next month.

The first, a Lancaster Bomber, will be flying past the town on June 2 as part of Haydon Wick Parish Council's 'The Big Haydon Wick Jubilee Lunch.'

The announcement on the council's Facebook page says: "We are super excited to announce that as part of The Big Haydon Wick Jubilee Lunch, we will have a very special visitor - a flypast from a Lancaster Bomber to mark the occasion!"

The second, a Supermarine Spitfire, will be taking part in an RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight as part of the Wiltshire Steam and Vintage Rally at Lydiard Park on June 11 and 12.

The Wiltshire Agricultural Preservation Group, which is running the West Swindon event, said it was thrilled to have the airbourne visitor given the significance of Lydiard Park's role during WW2.

It said: "We are very excited to announce that the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be providing a Spitfire flypast at this years Wiltshire Steam & Vintage Rally at Lydiard Park, 11th & 12th June.

"Lydiard Park played a vital role during WW2, including as a station hospital for the 101st Airborne Division, so it is fitting that we are able to add this treasured visitor to our list of exhibits."
