This week sees the launch of the biggest-ever Devizes Eisteddfod.

In Welsh culture, an eisteddfod is a festival with several ranked competitions, including poetry and music, so the town is set to be buzzing as there will be plenty to see and do.

There are some significant new developments in the competitive classes with the introduction of percussion in music and Charles Dickens classes in speech & drama.

Organisers of the event have said that there will be a day of non-competitive classes on Sunday, 20 November classes when anyone, young or adult may come and perform to whatever their standard is in front of an adjudicator and be given feedback.

A spokesperson for the event said: “Whether it is piano, voice, speech, drama, drumkit or electric guitar, all will be welcome to participate.”

The new Schools’ Partnership Scheme is another new initiative for 2022 and to date, some 13 schools in the area have signed up for this scheme.

In return for a package of benefits, they will guarantee several entries to this year’s event.

The festival is now in its 76th year and will take place over four days, from 17-20 November 2022 in various venues in Devizes.
