PERMISSION is being sought to build a small housing development a few miles outside of Marlborough,

Mr and Mrs Convey want permission in principle for a residential development of a minimum of four and a maximum of eight dwellings on land off Bytham Road, in Ogbourne St George.

The scope of the application is limited to location, use and the amount of development. The planning documents say that the site is an irregular shaped plot of land which currently comprises an area of overgrown grassland, and that it is currently vacant.

The site is not the subject of a Conservation Area designation, and the nearest listed building is Bramley Cottage, around 160m to the west.

It is within walking distance to the village facilities which include a primary school and pre-school, church, pub and bus stops which provide services to Swindon and Marlborough.

The applicants say the proposal could make a worthwhile contribution to the stock of smaller dwellings in this part of the district, at a time when the council cannot demonstrate a five-year supply of housing land.

They added: "Spatially the parcel of land is of more than sufficient size to accommodate the erection of up to eight sustainable dwellings in keeping with the character and appearance of the surroundings.
