Plans have been submitted for a new data centre at Spring Park.

The centre will be the same as the existing ones on the campus in Corsham, being used to house "critical computer systems and associated communications infrastructure".

Ark’s Spring Park data centre campus is to the west of Corsham on Westwells Road, and the new data centre would be on the eastern edge of the campus, fronting onto Westwells Road.

There are already several other data centres on the campus.

The proposals will result in the redevelopment of two "poor quality factory and storage units", with a "high-quality purpose built data centre that will enhance the economically important existing operations at the Spring Park campus".

Typical data centres users include financial institutions where their customer’s account information is maintained and transactional processes are carried out and government institutions, where their operational data is processed, managed and stored.

The design and access statement says that the new development will be "sympathetic with the established ecological conservation area to the west of the application site".

The planning statement adds: "The Spring Park Campus already delivers a major economic dividend for the county and wider region – and this proposal will continue to support and grow this significant positive impact on the local and regional economy."
