On the programme for that match manage John Trollope said : "Upon today's game rests our fate - whether we shall remain in the Third Division or not."
It had been a disappointing season for the club and he had hoped they would be safe from relegation but other teams had also saved their winning streaks for the last weeks.
The team that day included Chris Kamara, Ken Stroud, Jimmy Allan and Paul Rideout.
But Town could not avoid relegation to the Fourth Division at the end of the following season. It wasn't until the 1985-86 season that the club managed to move back up - and the year after that Lou Macari took them up another division.
