What has happened to Elle Darby? Fans grow concerned for Wiltshire influencer

At the start of 2022, the Wiltshire influencer from Westbury was called out for some of her old tweets which upset many due to their racist nature.   

She released an apology video, where she stated that she was ‘disgusted’ by the things she had said, but continued to face backlash from the public, with thousands of people unfollowing her on Instagram.

The 26-year-old has been silent on her social media since the beginning of January, and while the conversation on the topic has subsided slightly, some fans have expressed worry for the internet celebrity due to her lack of online content.   

Beckie Wilko has had growing feelings of sympathy for the Wiltshire celebrity, despite the nature of Elle Darby’s old posts.   

She stated on her Twitter account: “I feel like I’m the only one who misses Elle Darby. I know what she did was wrong, but I hope she’s doing ok.”  

This sparked another reply, arguing: ‘Confused. Why wouldn’t she be okay? Nobody has done anything to her?’  

Kerina Clark noted on 26 February: ‘Wonder if Elle Darby is ever going to make a return.’   

Jade Trowbridge added: ‘I wonder about Elle Darby far too often.’ 

Another user said on 24 February: ‘When is Elle Darby going to return because I miss her.’  

In the influencer’s apology video, the mum and wife-to-be admitted: “I’ve tried to film this video so many times, and every time it’s not good enough.  

“There are no words to tell you how sorry I am. The tweets I made in 2011 were so disgusting and so far from the person I am today.  

"They were racist, they were fat-phobic, they were homophobic. There were enabling words in them. I am ashamed. I am disgusted at myself. There is not one person on this planet that hates me more than I do right now.”  

Since the social media star first experienced the onslaught of criticism, it ignited countless discussions about ‘cancel culture', and got people talking about at what point calling someone out turns into ‘cancelling’ them completely.   

Meg Neale noted: ‘I hate cancel culture, so let’s not bully the girls because we know how that could end. #BeKind. People can word things wrong and also change, remember.’   

Elle Darby was dropped by her management shortly after her tweets were unearthed with a spokesperson for her talent agency Gleam Futures telling FEMAIL: "At Gleam Futures, our mission is to be a driving force for a culturally progressive and diverse industry, offering leading-edge representation for talent that aligns with our values.  

"In light of recent events, we have therefore made the decision to no longer represent Elle Darby and Connor Swift."
