Devizes is heading for a business-boosting markets bonanza, with everything from a Ferrari festival to a chilli gala set to come to the centre of the town.

Devizes Town Council’s recreation and properties committee was told on Tuesday that outside traders are queuing up to stage new markets and events to bolster the calendar of the busy Thursday market and the monthly farmers’ market.

In April and July the Market Place Europe group will bring stalls selling Continental food, drink and goods to the Market Place.

In June an extra market promoting artisan and local food and drink is expected to be held to add to the celebrations to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Plans are also being made with an organisation that puts on an Italian Auto Moto car festival that tours the country.

Councillors were told “there is confidence that Devizes will host a Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini show”.

France at Home, an authentic French market company, will be setting up stalls in Devizes in November, with the town on its standby list to also come for another market in the summer.

And the town’s markets team is in talks with a company keen to stage a chilli and cheese festival in Devizes, although this may not happen before next year.
