1965: The new stand at Devizes Town FC is very nearly complete. It was the year the Nursteed Ground was officially re-opened after the club worked for six years to buy it.

First formed in 1884 as an opportunity for members of Southbroom Cricket Club to play a winter sport, it started life in Brickley Lane before moving to join the cricket and tennis clubs at Devizes Recreation Club in London Road.

Devizes Town FC came about as Southbroom and other small clubs merged and immediately found success, winning the Wiltshire League.

It moved to the Nursteed Road ground in the wake of the Second World War after the Jennings family offered a 21-year free lease.

Among several players destined for great things was Roger Hunt, who went on to play for Liverpool and was a member of the 1966 World Cup winning side.
