Fusion confusion

So, the BBC on Sunday morning (ex Marr), manages to discuss the Fusion Breakthrough "in a lab in Oxfordshire”, without once mentioning that it is a joint European project (Joint European Taurus), initiated by the European Union.

Why does it hide this fact?

The BBC also misses out that they are already building a reactor that could make use of this breakthrough in France.

The difference between a proactive government in the EU and a reactive one in the UK is stark. Desperate, even.

Desperate enough to move (relegate?) Jacob Rees Mog to the newly created post of Minister for Brexit Opportunities.

As it happens his new role gives him so little to do that he's had to ask the readers of the Sun newspaper to write in with ideas.

Perhaps he should ask John Cleese, he did a similar job with his Ministry of Silly Walks!

Least said soonest mended in politics

I am not usually surprised at anything my fellow correspondent Steve Cowdry writes, but his description of John Major as being "a decent man" was quite amazing.

I understand Steve's obsession about getting rid of Boris, just as I accept he can't get over the fact that the country voted for Brexit.

But he is wrong to ignore the issues which ultimately led to John Major's government and party being consigned to a decade of opposition.

As for his four year affair with Edwina Currie while in office, least said, soonest mended.

Chinese bubble burst

The enormous Evergrande building company in China has got into very deep financial difficulty.

For the first time investors are discovering that investing in a communist country carries some additional risks compared to investing in a capitalist economy.

The courts in China do not follow the same company law as in the capitalist world so when a business goes bankrupt in China investors do not have the same protection.

The house price bubble has burst in China business are going over like dominoes. This has come as a great surprise to many people who thought China was a safe place to invest their money.
