A Trowbridge man who “represented a significant risk to the people of Wiltshire” has been remanded in custody after pleading guilty today to a range of offences, including possessing a stun gun.

Christopher Mounty was charged after officers from Wiltshire Police’s Operation Fortitude stopped and searched his car in Bath and found the firearm.

A police spokesman said: “At 12.40pm on January 20, officers had cause to stop a Volkswagen Polo in Midford Road in Bath which had travelled to the city from Trowbridge. The vehicle was being driven by Christopher Mounty, 39, of no fixed address, Trowbridge.

“Searches of the vehicle found a firearm in the form of an electric stun device. Mounty was arrested and was charged with possession of a section 5 firearm (stun gun), possession of a firearm when prohibited, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.”

Mounty appeared virtually at Salisbury Magistrates Court today and pleaded guilty to all charges. He has been remanded in custody to be sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court on February 17.

Det Sgt David Hambly, of Operation Fortitude, said: “Operation Fortitude targets those who represent the most harm to our communities.

“Mounty was driving a vehicle whilst disqualified from doing so and with no insurance, whilst in possession of an electric stun device. He represented a significant risk to the people of both Wiltshire and Somerset and I am pleased that he has pleaded guilty and will be sentenced in due course.”
