Police are urgently appealing for witnesses following “an extremely violent” incident in Trowbridge - when a car was attacked by people wielding what are believed to be baseball bats.

The incident happened at approximately 6.20pm on Friday, after a man in his 40s was driving a silver Skoda Fabia from the direction of Bythesea Road when he came to a stop at red traffic lights at the roundabout near to Subway.

“It is then believed that a number of people exited a vehicle, believed to be a red Mini, and attacked the Skoda with what has been described as baseball bats,” said a police spokesman.

The Mini then left in the direction of Tesco Extra on County Way.

The spokesperson added: “This was an extremely violent incident – thankfully nobody was hurt although extensive damage was caused to the vehicle involved.

“Due to the location of this incident, it is likely that the area was busy at the time and we believe there may be witnesses or dash cam footage available which would help us identify those involved. If you believe you can help, please do get in touch immediately.

“Those responsible must be identified and should face justice for their behaviour – their actions would have caused the single occupant of the vehicle as well as anyone in the area at the time to feel extremely fearful and that is simply not acceptable.

"Nobody in our community should have to witness this kind of behaviour or be subject to it.”
