FOUR establishments have been given a zero rating by food hygiene inspectors.

Happy Valley Chinese takeaway in Trowbridge was ranked zero and told that major improvement was necessary for both food handling and cleanliness and the condition of facilities and the building.

Inspectors said urgent improvement was necessary for their management of food safety on March 15, 2021.

Another zero rating went to The Bell Inn, High Street, Great Cheverell. It scored zero after an inspection on March 17, 2021.

Major improvement was found necessary for the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building, urgent improvement for the management of food safety, and improvement necessary for the hygienic handling of food.

The other two getting the lowest rank were – Billy Batchers Butchers in Shrewton and Sprinkles Gelato in Salisbury.

Following an inspection on on August 24, 2021 at the butchers, major improvement was deemed necessary for all three areas inspected by the food safety officer.

And at Sprinkles following the July 16, 2021, inspection, bosses were told there was a need for major improvement of the management of food safety and hygienic food handling.

Improvement was also highlighted for cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.

Establishments are given a score between zero to five by hygiene inspectors, with zero at the bottom of the scale, meaning urgent improvement is necessary.

The inspector assesses the areas including how the food is handled; including preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage.

Another area which is looked at is the management of food safety.

According to the FSA, this assesses the ‘system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.’
