Wiltshire Council’s superbly named convoy of winter gritters is prepared to deploy in the colder months to keep roads safe.

Ringway Wiltshire, the highways company which helps service the gritters, took to social media to say the council’s gritter force was being readied for winter.

They said: “Wiltshire Council gritters are back on station and being readied and route tested by Ringway Wiltshire operatives in preparation for the coming winter season.

“Congratulations to the ops for having the cleanest gritters in the UK.”

A spokesman for the council said: “Salt is usually used on roads after the evening peak of traffic or before the morning rush, as late evening and early morning are the most likely times that frost and ice affect road surfaces.

“All key routes in Wiltshire receive precautionary salting when ice is forecast, including motorways, trunk roads and class A and B roads.”
