THE COMMUNITY action in response to a train derailment in Salisbury yesterday evening has been praised by Wiltshire Council. 

At 6.46pm on Sunday, October 31 two passenger trains were involved in a crash in Fisherton Tunnel.

Around 13 passengers were injured in the crash but it has been confirmed that no one has died.

In response to the major incident, the local community acted fast or took to social media to ask if those involved needed help or supplies just as food or blankets. 

Leader of Wiltshire Council, Richard Clewer praised the strong community spirit shown after the incident. 

“My thoughts and those of everyone at Wiltshire Council are with those who were involved in the train derailment yesterday evening,” he said. 

“I wish those who were injured a speedy recovery and am grateful that everyone involved is safe. 

Thank you to the emergency services on site who did a tremendous job ensuring the safety of those on board the trains. 

We know Salisbury residents will always come together and this incident has proven that once again. 

I’d like to thank the local community for their support and well done to those at St Mark’s for opening their doors and providing a safe space at such short notice.

“We continue to work with our partners following this incident to provide support where required.”
