CHIPPENHAM MP Michelle Donelan has welcomed a £2.6 billion allocation for local road upgrades across the South West.

She says it will see the A350 in Chippenham upgraded to the major road network programme.

The MP said: "I've been pushing Ministers to improve this road and I am pleased that duelling a section of the road and increasing capacity and safety at two roundabouts will begin in 2023.

"This resolves the Bumpers Farm issue I have been trying to sort for the last few years.

"This will be welcome news for people who work there and something I have been pushing hard to sort."

The £2.6bn allocation was announced by Chancellor Rishi Sunak as part of Wednesday's Budget.

It means that major routes across the region will be improved to reduce congestion.
