SWINDON Supermarine remain winless in the Southern League Premier South division since August following a 1-1 draw with Walton Casuals on Saturday.

Lee Spalding’s side have only won twice otherwise since August 30, recording two victories in the League Challenge Cup, but went close to taking all three points in south-west London at the weekend.

A tight first half saw Martin Horsell make a couple of good stops to deny Walton, but it was Marine who took the lead when a cross from the right found Ryan Campbell on the left-hand side of the box.

Campbell turned his defender and shot straight in the bottom corner for his second of the campaign.

A cagey start to the second period was interrupted when Walton were awarded a penalty. A ball over the top saw Adam Liddle get in front of the defence before going down inside the box.

Rohdell Gordon stepped up to level the scores, sending Horsell the wrong way in the 64th minute.

With Marine still smarting from the controversial penalty award, Horsell had to be at his best to deny the hosts taking the lead with 20 minutes to play. A free-kick on the edge of the box was whipped over the wall by James Comley, but the Marine stopper was equal to it to his left.

As the home side poured forward searching for a late winner, a repeat move that lead to the penalty award saw Liddle go down once again - only this time the referee waved the claims away.

Marine had one last chance to steal the points themselves in injury time. David Pratt was played through on goal but could only slam his shot into the goalkeeper, leaving the visitors to travel home with just a point.

Elsewhere, in Southern League Division One South, Highworth Town recorded a thumping 5-1 home success against Evesham United to move up to sixth - one place outside the play-offs.

Felipe Barcelos continued his fine personal form with a hat-trick, and that was added to by ex-Swindon Town man Toby Holland as well as a fine strike from Matt Cheetham.

Meanwhile, in the Hellenic Premier Division, Royal Wootton Bassett Town’s winless league run stretched to eight games as they fell to a heavy 5-2 defeat away against third place Malvern Town.

Alan Griffin scored both of Bassett’s goals, but Sam Collier’s men were already 4-0 down before their top scorer registered his first.
