BRIGHT sunshine on Saturday and Sunday brought out hundreds of villagers and visitors to West Lavington who spent part of the day trekking round its scarecrow trail.

Organisers said there was a "constant stream of families" arriving and walking around the village to admire the scarecrows and guess the movies they represented.

The event was staged to raise funds for the Dauntsey Academy Primary School- known locally as DAPS - and up to 40 movie-themed scarecrows were on display.

Mandy Francis, a member of the DAPS scarecrow committee, said: “We are so happy with the scarecrows on display and are always so grateful to everyone locally who comes to visit our event and support us with sponsorship and prizes. We have been so busy over the weekend and we hope everyone enjoyed the event.

"There was also a lot going on in the school from BBQ’s, tea and cake, plant sales, raffles, lucky dips and guess the name of the giant teddy."

Philippa Winbolt, headteacher at DAPS, said: “The support we get for our school from the local families and community groups never ceases to amaze me, they are such a talented bunch to have produced so many wonderful scarecrows.

“Our school has so much to offer our children it is lovely to showcase both the creative talent we have here as well as welcome the wider community and new families onto our lovely grounds to enjoy a few hours of fun."

Up to 174 children from the neighbouring villages and nearby towns go to the school.
