Highways England says improvement work at junction 15 is set to be finished on time in October.

The project is intended to improve journey times for motorists by tackling congestion at peak times on both the busy M4 junction and the A419 dual carriageway.

According to the government body “the last of the roundabout closures are planned for September.

“The next phase will be to resurface the A419 southbound with closures planned from late September until mid October."

Advance notice has been given of future closures that are needed to complete works and to remove cabling and cameras used for traffic management.

The west side of the roundabout will be closed on September 28 and 29 from 8pm to 6am, including west side slip roads.

There will be no access from the A346 northbound onto the motorway and the eastbound off slip and westbound on slip will be shut.

The same applies to the east side of the roundabout and slip roads on September 30 and October1.

There will be no access from the A419 southbound onto the M4 and the eastbound on slip and westbound off slip will be closed.

The A419 southbound between Commonhead roundabout and the M4 will be closed from 8pm to 6am from September 30 to October 15.

Locally signed diversions will be in place which motorists are encouraged to follow.

Borough council cabinet member for strategic infrastructure, transport and planning Gary Sumner reacted to the update and urged drivers to be patient with the next batch of road closures.

“Really pleased that the September update from Highways England confirms they are on target to complete this significant improvement to Junction 15 in October,” he said.

"There will obviously still be some inconvenience to residents in the final phases with planned closures and signposted diversions, but as with all of the highway improvement schemes this will lead to better roads and improved journeys on completion."

He added: "This scheme provides additional capacity for the Badbury Park development and our planned growth at New Eastern Villages."
