A new pub, which recently opened in Calne, has been well-received.

The Piggy Bank opened on August 13 on The Strand, a year and a half later than planned.

It is backed by the Stealth Brew Co. of Melksham, who also operate The Hiding Place in Melksham and The Vaults in Devizes.

Manager, Dan Lewis, said: "It's really nice to see how people have reacted to something new in the town."

The opening of the pub, originally scheduled for March 2020, has not been without its difficulties. Faced with delays, Dan Lewis had no choice but to give up the lease in October, working instead to deliver Stealth Brews in the local area.

Still hoping for another chance to open the Piggy Bank, in late June of this year, Dan decided to go ahead.

With just over one month to have the pub ready for an August opening, the problem this time involved supply issues; finding materials for rebuilding works, for example.

"It didn't complete derail us but it was a bit tight at times," Dan explained.

But the Piggy Bank has prevailed, and is looking to expand further. In the coming months there will likely be quiz nights and monthly food events: three-course meals with outside catering.

It is also looking into acquiring a license for live music in addition to its existing license to serve drinks outside.

Manager Dan is keen to introduce local pubgoers to an interesting range of cask ales and craft keg beers.

"I love my beer, love to introduce people to the new ones," he said.

Cloak and Dagger, a New England IPA, is Dan's favourite.
