PASSENGERS on Great Western Railway are facing delays and service issues after a person was hit by a train between Westbury and Reading.

It is understood the person was hit near the Patney road bridge in the Vale of Pewsey. Emergency services are attending the accident scene.

GWR published a statement on its website saying: “Due to a person hit by a train between Reading and Westbury all lines are blocked.

“Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 15.00.”

The incident is believed to have occurred this morning, when a person was hit by the 6.05am Penzance to London Paddington service just before 11am.

The person is understood to have accessed the line at the Patney road bridge between Heywood Road and Woodborough.

The incident is affecting GWR services between the South West and London Paddington station.

Delays are expected until 3pm when GWR hopes the line will be cleared. British Transport Police are investigating the incident.
