Cabinet member for housing, Phil Alford said the housing is part of the council’s decade long development plan to increase the number of affordable housing in Wiltshire.

In June 2017, the local authority had developed on land adjacent to the new site, and in 2019 conducted a rural housing survey which showed the need for more homes in Rowde.

“With the land being in Wiltshire Council ownership and the need identified by the Housing Register, we took the decision to proceed with a planning application to develop this neighbouring piece of land to meet the growing housing need,” Cllr Alford continued.

“If planning permission is granted, it is intended that the site would be one of three sites that will pilot a Modern Method of Construction (off-site manufacturing) that would enable the manufacture of the units to take place at the same time as the groundworks.

“This should reduce the time taken and the environmental impact of traffic on the site. It is anticipated that the planned project would potentially be completed by summer 2022, however this would be reliant on contractor availability and essential utility connections.”
