A Ludwell butcher shop has been presented with a national award for their traditional pork and sage sausage.

Wiltshire's T Buttling Butchers was crowned the winner of the Champion of Champions 2020.

The competition is organised by the Meat Trades Journal, and the judging took place last month in Crawley.

Experts in the meat industry judge sausages from all over the UK on taste, texture, filling size and appearance, and in both their raw and cooked forms.

Winners were then announced online two weeks later.

Paul Buttling is the fourth generation to run the business, and he said he has been entering the competition for the last 20 years: "It's been a little while in the coming but we got there in the end.

"Everyone just thinks you chuck a sausage in the pan and here we go, but when you get to this level it is very technical, and the judges are top of their game.

"I'm really chuffed. We're all really chuffed, it's a great team effort.

"We sell plenty of these sausages and we get plenty of praise for them, so I think we're doing the right thing."

The Buttling family has been in the meat trade since 1898, and took over the shop on Salisbury Road in 1978 after trading for many years in London.

The shop itself was built as a butcher's shop in 1906 and has remained a butcher ever since.

T Buttling Butchers offers meat, homemade pies and pasties, and a selection of cheeses and fish.
