PLANS for 61 houses and employment land in Purton have been submitted to Wiltshire Council.

Developer Wainhomes Severn Valley has put in a planning bid to build 61 houses at Widham Farm, Purton – 24 of which are classed as affordable.

Under the plans, two existing buildings on the site will be torn down to make way for access and open space.

Additionally, the bid includes outline permission for 0.72 hectares of employment land.

This bid follows two previous planning applications and subsequent appeals in 2009 and 2013, respectively.

“The 2009 and 2013 decisions have established this area as a sustainable and accessible location for development,” the developer said in their application statement.

“The appeal decisions are also consistent in that there was no objection on any site-specific matter, a position which remains today, as set out in the supporting environmental and technical reports for this application.”

Wainhomes said the development is “well placed” to address Wiltshire’s lack of a five-year housing land supply.

The developer also asserts the bid with its accompanying employment land would provide a close home and work relationship in Purton.
