Police are looking to find a man in connection with an incident of fraud in Devizes.
It took place at Morrisons earlier this month (July 3) at around 11.15am when a man entered the store looking for the manager claiming a member of his family had been injured by a product he’d bought there.
While he was waiting, he told the store assistant he was an off-duty police officer and asked her if she’d heard about a stabbing at Sainsbury’s. He then went off to speak to the duty manager.
When he returned, he showed her a number which he said was a reference from the police and head office.
He showed her a barcode on his phone for a product worth £150 which he said her manager had cleared to be refunded.
After he’d left, the assistant queried it with her manager who told her he’d agreed for a product carrying a much lower value to be refunded.
Obviously, we don’t like people pretending to be an off-duty police officer in order to gain someone’s trust so if you can help our investigation, call us on 101 quoting reference 54210068331 or you can report online here https://crowd.in/0SBALY. You can also report anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111.
