A SPECIAL award has been created at Devizes School, in memory of the “brilliant and special” John Parker.
John was a much-loved chairman of governors at Nursteed Community Primary School, and died suddenly last November.
His huge contribution to the school has now been marked with a school prize in his name.
The first recipient of the award was Imogen Foster, described as a “shining star” by school staff.
“Our school values are kindness, teamwork and determination, Imogen reflects all of them,” said class teacher Mrs Dunstone.
Proud Imogen said it felt “pretty good” to win and see her name as the first one etched onto the trophy.
The new chairman of governors, Andy Geddes, said that John had been a brilliant leader to the school.
“He cared about this school so much,” said Andy.
“He was a great leader but he also knew when to step back and delegate.”
Headteacher Kay Vousden explained how special the award had been, and that it reflected everything John encouraged at the school.
Ms Vousden, who was chosen for the head role by John, added: “The school just meant so much to him, and it grew so much with having him in charge.”
John’s daughter Rebecca Hunt-Davis also attended the prize giving ceremony.
She said that John, a former antiques dealer, would have been incredibly proud.
“He would have been deeply touched,” said Rebecca.
“He was a bit of a showman and had a really good sense of humour, but he also just got so much done.
“Today has been really special.”
Other award winners at the school included Lexi Williamson, Harry Burton, Violet Weir, Elsa Read, Bonnie Howells, Max Raczek and Stanley Genner.
