Hollywood A-listers Tom Cruise and Gloucestershire-born Simon Pegg have been spotted filming in a disused quarry near Westbury and on Salisbury Plain.

They have reprised their roles in earlier Mission Impossible films for the seventh film in the series which is due for release in May next year.

Brockworth-born Pegg and Cruise were seen filming on Wednesday in and around a quarry near the famous Westbury White Horse for the blockbuster.

Security people are guarding the entrance to the White Horse chalk pit off Long River Road near the famous Westbury White Horse.

However, while one claimed the filming was not for Mission Impossible, but an unnamed TV production, it seems the actors were in the area but have now left.

Shocked locals reported seeing the famous factors in the area, following other scenes filmed at an airfield near Gloucester.

Pegg, a former Brockworth Comprehensive School pupil, was apparently seen driving world-famous Tom Cruise along the A360 on Salisbury Plain. The pair were reportedly also spotted in West Lavington.

Several lorries, vans and a minibus were seen inside the chalk pit and off-road buggies were reportedly being used to transport the film stars around the quarry.

Vehicles belonging to the production companies involved with the film were seen parked on the old Blue Circle factory site below the White Horse hill.

The Wiltshire Times has been told the actors have now left the area to film scenes in Scotland.

The Mission Impossible film is the seventh in the series and is the third to be directed by Mr McQuarrie, following Rogue Nation and Fallout.

The film stars Tom Cruise, who reprises his role as Ethan Hunt, along with Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Angela Bassett, and Frederick Schmidt, all of whom will reprise their roles from the previous films.

Actors Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, and Cary Elwes, have joined the franchise.

Two untitled sequels, one of them being Mission: Impossible 7, are both scheduled to be released in May 2022 and July 2023, respectively, both directed by Mr McQuarrie.
