THAMES Valley Police has sought advice from the Crown Prosecution Service over its investigation into the Swindon and Wiltshire Police and Crime Commissioner elections.
In May Conservative Jonathon Seed was elected to serve as the PCC for Swindon and Wiltshire, but could not take up the office because of a historic conviction.
After the elections it was announced by Wiltshire Police that Thames Valley Police would investigate the election.
The force said this was "to ensure independent oversight and to remove any potential conflict of interest."
Today (July 5) the force provided an update on the investigation.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “Thames Valley Police are conducting an investigation in relation to the 2021 Wiltshire and Swindon Police and Crime Commissioner election.
“We can confirm that as part of this process the advice of the Crown Prosecution Service has been sought.
“The investigation is ongoing and we are not in a position to provide further comment at this time.”
A re-election for the PCC role will take place on August 19, 2021.
