TEACHERS from a Chippenham school will take part in the 10 peaks challenge to raise money for a youth charity.

Sheldon school teachers have dedicated themselves to conquer 10 peaks in 10 hours against the backdrop of Brecon Beacons to fundraise for the Youth Adventure Trust on Saturday, July 10.

The charity helps vulnerable 11- to 15-year-olds build resilience to face the challenges in their lives. So far the group of teachers have raised £699 of their £1,500 target for the 34km hike and 1,695m ascent.

Eugene Spiers, who is the school’s head of sixth form, assistant headteacher and event organiser said: “The Youth Adventure Trust are an amazing local charity that supports young people to develop confidence and skills.

“I have volunteered with them in the past and wanted to be able to support them again so asked the SMT to take part in the 10 Peaks challenge.”

The group had planned to take part in the challenge last year but due to the pandemic, it was postponed.

On June 5 the staff had a training walk where they did just over half of the planned hike and say they are now ready for the challenge.

Headteacher, Neil Spurdell said: "I think I am looking forward to it, although at my age climbing 10 peaks whilst walking 34 kilometres might be a struggle. We all enjoy a challenge, though, and the cause is well worth it."
