A FORMER Corsham town councillor has died.

Roger Fido, who was a town councillor for 22 years and chairman of the council between 1997 and 2002 has died.

According to a social media post from Corsham Town Council, his most memorable achievement was changing the council name from parish to town council at the turn of the millennium.

A spokesman for the town council said: “Roger’s presence in our community was huge. He was president of the Corsham Ban and he’ll be missed on both sides of the channel thanks to his work as chairman of the Corsham Twinning Association.

“The Jargeau visits will not be the same without him, and nor will Corsham.”

In 2010, Cllr Fido handed in his resignation after 22 years on the council after the town council approved increasing the precept by a staggering 21 per cent.

He was the chairman of the Corsham Twinning association with Jargeau, France.
